the Chaney Holiday Show:
Pottery, Drawings, and Re-purposed rings by Chris and Mary Chaney

Show Info:
Just in time for the holidays we are presenting fresh works from the Chaney household. From the kiln, I will be offering Asian influenced soda fired ceramic works that are sure to be the perfect handmade gift. Mary will be presenting delicate skeletal line drawings inspired by osteological reproductions. For the unique jewelry lover, Mary will also be offering rings made from vintage and re-purposed buttons.

Mary and I met at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL where we both studied Art. Since graduation in 2001, we have practiced our individual disciplines in various professional capacities around the Chicagoland area. Currently, I teach ceramics at Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago, while Mary teaches our 2 year old daughter the finer points of crayon use.

Mo’ Money, Mo’ Problems

So Mary, Rosie, and I moved into our new (to us) home this past week. Ah, home ownership is much different than owning a condo. Specially if the place was built in 1969 and there were many, many cobbled together repairs and additions. Some things need to be done, some things I’d like to have done. One of the first things to tackle is the electric. The house already has 200 amp service, so that’s been taken care of already. Problem is (or is is problems are): need to have fan boxes in bedrooms added, 2-prong outlets changed to 3-prong following code, switches wired logically to fixtures, studio wired to dedicated circuit wit the addition of GFIs, hardwired smokes installed, phone jacks and lines run (!?). Granted, these issues aren’t major, just more of annoyances than anything else.

Major will be when I have the outbuilding constructed for the electric kiln. Hopefully I’ll actually be posting regular updates on all the projects…

Memorial Day Adventure

So on Memorial Day, after having dropped the monkey off at grandma’s the night before, Mary and I decided to visit Anderson Japanese Gardens in Rockford, IL. While we were at the garden, the weather was beautiful — warm and sunny! This was our first trip to Anderson, so we didn’t really know what to expect. Needless to say we were quite impressed and will definitely be back. Perhaps in the fall for the tea ceremony? My only beef with the place is that they don’t label their plants, which I can totally understand. But sometimes I’d really like to know what we are looking at…Anyway, here are some pics:
